Many artists have an addiction to anxiety in place of art. I think of this as artistic anorexia. Just as those with an eating disorder can become obsessed with not eating, so, too, an artist can become obsessed with not making art. Anxiety builds, and anxiety is addictive. We become habituated to negativity, yet the smallest acts taken on the behalf of our art yield large rewards. What did we do daily? What small action can we take? These are the questions to ask, not, "how am I doing compared to X?"
