Now that my studio is 99.9 per cent up and running (I still have to build a good work table), I’m catching up on my list of creative projects. Right now I’m up to my eyeballs in a painting–my first in about 30 years, since I’m a sculptor. I’m doing this because I was inspired by my recent color theory class. My “model” is a California mountain lion, and my subject is the calm self-assurance of an animal with power.

What is everyone else working on these days?

I’m working on a colored pencil/watercolor drawing of an autumn leaf. Since I found the leaf last autumn, and it’s gotten a bit faded, the drawing’s a combination of what’s there now and what was in my mind when it initially caught my eye. I was using sunlight as my light source, but the winter was so gray and the spring’s been so rainy, it’s taken me months to finish it. But I’m determined that it will get done. And I’m just as determined to have a better game plan next fall!

I’m doing a series of ten small (2.5″ x 3.5″) portraits of Frankenstein’s Monster. I want them all to be similar, but each an individual piece. I’m using miniature pre-stretched canvases, and screwed Frank’s bolts directly into the frames.

I put up a progress shot at http://www.flickr.com/photos/47323771@N04/5867885909/ – the painting in the back is a test piece I painted on an artist trading card.

I am out of my organized phase, and now in random phase. I am writing characters. I am approaching my writing sort of the way I imagine a scientist would their experiments. I observe, absorb, and then write out short characters, scenes, and store them away.

I’m into collage right now. And I am redoing my house. Attempting to use only things I design, photographs of people I know or places I’ve been or art made locally by someone I know. My husband and I working on designing and building a tile table for our kitchen. And I’ve started a word collection. Yes, I have ADD. 20 minutes here. Two hours there.

Reverend Bonobo–
I just looked at your work in progress. You are an artist after my own heart! Thanks for a good laugh, and I hope the project comes out as great as it started.

I am currently involved in a battle with Aphids which have invaded my balcony flower pots. Lost two lovely pansies already – but I may be winning! I don’t have many flowers this year so I’m guarding them like crazy…

Creatively I’ve hit a bad patch lately, have had a hard time keeping the pages going, let TAW slide for a month or more but am trying to keep going :)

tried spraying or watering them with very dilute washing up liquid..? Aphids dont like that at all..!
Keep up the TAW..!

hi rosebud, I use Insecticidal Soap spray which is pretty effective – one or two more squirts should finish off the little beasts…

I got an old, old camera recently and have had lots of fun snapping shots (have no clue about photography) and want to learn more about exposure, aperture and all that stuff.

It’s a lot harder than I thought, but it forces me to ‘see’ things in a new way, which is interesting. I feel like a pro just snapping the shutter ;) despite the fact that the pics themselves are pretty mundane!

I will have a opening evening for my installations on Sunday, the 9th of October 2011. There is still a lot to do. I have invited some friends and I keep telling myself that it is just a small step in the direction I need to walk. The subject is ‘Guides and Guards’ and it is inspired by the ‘doll’ essay in The Vain of Gold.

Love your avatar Horsewings. It just made me smile too.
Hope we’ll get a chance to see your painting when it’s finished.
Lol: I’m not organized enough to work from a “list of creative projects”.
And Centralartist, good luck with your opening.
I’m a shadow songwriter who recently wrote an instrumental song that was inspired by several sources.
If anyone cares to have a listen.

Hello everyone!

My inner critic is having a major blockarama blockbuster blockfest of a blockparty!
I’ve decided to go back to basics. Morning pages and artist dates.

I’m still writing haiku and my wierd little life-word puzzles and phrases as they come to mind.
This week, I’m adopting a dog! I love animals, and I’m so excited about our new little furry child! She’s a greyhound: she’s beautiful and needs a beautiful sweater! I have some shrunken alpine wool sweaters, 2 have a fantastic pattern, and for an artist date have researched some designs to cut and sew. She’ll be the most stylish paws on the block! :)

I’m planning some portrait projects in pastel. I just cleaned my chalks, they were a mess, and I’m getting excited at the thought of venturing out of my graphite black and white world which was becoming just that!
